Rita Frost ’14 (Political Science major/ Environmental Studies & Economics minor) has grabbed her APEX Fellowship by the horns and run with it. Based in Washington, D.C., she’s essentially completing two unpaid internships, one for a brand new coalition called DC Divest, which is working on a campaign to ask the District of Columbia government to stop investing in fossil fuel companies, and the other with the New York-based No Impact Project, for which she works remotely conducting research and writing news briefs. She has also tapped into several other environmental organizations in DC and spends her non-internship time volunteering for the organizations and working at two farmer’s markets. In her own words, she says,
“While living in the District of Columbia, my spider web of ties to non-profits, businesses, and government officials expands on a day by day basis. I work with DC Divest, DC Eco Women, the Sierra Club DC Chapter and national office, and two farmers markets each week on top of my internship duties. My role in each organization varies, but I am respected in each realm and have found everything I have done to be meaningful.”
