Sam Connor ’12 majored in Cultural Area Studies with a focus on Latin America. He is now teaching in Virginia.
The most important skill I acquired at Wooster is the ability to be a thoughtful, and self-starting thinker. As a teacher, I work in a very fluid environment, with a great deal of freedom. The critical thinking and planning I learned at Wooster help me every day to decide what I will present in class, how best to present it, and, furthermore, how to best prepare myself to present the material. What is more, the relationship I developed with my advisor, and other professors, provided me with valuable experience as to what it is like to interact in a professional environment. Over the past year I have discovered that I am very passionate about both Spanish and lacrosse. In the future, I would love to find a way to combine the two. However, until I find a way to merge both pursuits, I will continue to work on them separately through teaching, coaching, practice, and further education.
