(Navee, center, helps out with Senior I.S. preparations in the Registrar’s office)
Navee Chandran ’15 (a biochemistry major from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia) is a student employee in the registrar’s office. In her time working there, she has come to understand that the registrar’s office is helpful to students in many “behind-the-scenes” ways. Navee explains that the office helps students understand what classes they need to graduate, how to work around a study abroad program, and how to access transcripts, among many other things. The office also works with professors to put together the course catalogue for each semester. Perhaps the most visible job of the registrar’s office is accepting the final copies of seniors’ I.S. projects and keeping records to make sure that everyone who turns one in gets credit.
Navee believes that the registrar’s most important job, particularly as the semester comes to a close, is to help seniors navigate their degree audit, or the list of classes required to graduate. Navee says her job in the registrar’s office has helped her learn to deal with students productively. “Some students have problems with degree audits and I really have to see it from their perspective to understand how to help them.” Navee also works in other APEX departments, including as an assistant in Experiential Learning and as a peer mentor. “I’ve gotten to know APEX really well and understand how the departments work together. I can see how they all connect to help students. This is a place students can come and get their problems solved,” Navee says.
