Physics enthusiast from Calcutta India, Paroma Palchoudhuri worked in the Particle Physics Department of Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory in Illinois during the summer before her junior year. Fermilab, which includes scientists and engineers from all over the world, is the premier particle physics laboratory of the United States that builtone of the world’s most famous particle accelerators as well as conducts heavy research in the field of dark energy and dark matter.
Under the supervision of Eric Ramberg and Carlos Escobar, Paroma worked in the field of Quantum Optics. Her interest in this field developed gradually through her education at Wooster: “Physics and research became my passion at the end of last summer when I worked as a research assistant to Dr. Susan Lehman at The College of Wooster,” said Paroma.
She was able to reap the benefits that APEX (Academic Planning and Experiential Learning) provided her, such as building her resume, providing a platform to present previous research and tweaking her application skills to help her stand out as a candidate- all of which culminated in her experience at the Fermilab. In the near future, she plans on applying her research to her Senior Thesis and later pursing a Ph.D. in physics.
